Grace Nickel: Eruptions
August 3 – October 27, 2019
Opening Reception: September 6, 7:00 – 10:00pm
Eruptions is a close study of the life cycle of a tree. Nickel examines the decaying trees on plots of land near her home along the Red River in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Treaty 1) to observe how closely the process of growth, decay, recovery, and regeneration is true of all organic forms. Her ceramic works speak to disease, injury and aging as a way of addressing the health and sustainability of our natural environment, as we struggle with the effects of climate change.
The artist gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council, and the University of Manitoba.
