The friendship between Japanese artist Shoji Hamada and English potter Bernard Leach re-introduced the traditions of handmade functional ceramics to the modern world. Their ideas continue to inspire work by contemporary artists. Looking at historical work by international artists, we will explore how Canadian ceramists have used and expanded on these time-honoured traditions.
